A few months ago I came across a new, local
service called Market Delivered. In
October last year, I met Dave Fisher who came up with the idea and is now
running the service in Leeds.
Dave told me about his passion for markets
and how he combined traditional market stalls with modern technology.
Now what is Market Delivered all about and
why is it so unique? Market Delivered does what it says: you can order locally
sourced fresh produce from the comfort of your own home and get it delivered to
your door step. All products come from suppliers based in Leeds Kirkgate
market.
The suppliers range from Bennetts Butchers
and Hole Bottom Farm who source meat locally where possible, over Hayes Seafood
offering a great variety of seafood mainly caught on the East Coast of Britain
and fresh and seasonal vegetables supplied by Neils Fruit and Veg.
The website marketdelivered.com is easy to use
and offers a great deal of information about the suppliers they work with and
the products they sell.
I myself am very passionate about shopping
local and supporting businesses in the area. So naturally, I loved the idea of
Market Delivered. My favourite products
are the Vegetable and Meat Boxes
that Market Delivered offers. I ordered the Family Bumper Fruit and VegetableBox
from Neils Fruit and Veg for £20.
The box contained a variety of fresh fruits
like kiwis, apples, oranges and even a mango; a great selection of vegetables
including potatoes, onions and cauliflower and all the ingredients you need for
a great healthy and tasty salad.
· 1 Chicken
· 4 Homemade Burgers
· 4 Pork Steaks/Chops
· 500g Lean Minced Beef
· 500g Casserole Beef
· 500g Homemade Pork Sausages (8 sausages)
The whole shop lasted for approximately two weeks, based on the food consumption of two adults. Some of the meat, like the mince and the diced beef was frozen and later used for a Beef Stew and a Bolognese.
All in all I can highly recommend Market Delivered and the food supplied by the traders from Leeds Kirkgate market. All products are fresh and of extremely good quality; and the majority of them are not only seasonal, but sourced from farms in Yorkshire and Britain. It is a great way of supporting the region’s businesses and it allows you to trace where your food comes from. I can now say, I am converted to shopping local 2.0.
